Pollination Station

Governors Island has become a recreational, cultural, and educational infrastructure to the people of New York City. In collaboration with Earth Matter, a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing the art, science, and application of composting in and around NYC, the proposal aims to redesign Building 110, a landmark that was the former Army warehouse on Governors Island, through interior and architectural renovations.

Concept

“Pollination Station” is an effort to educate the public on landscape and food waste with respect to climate emergency and material health. The building celebrates the pollinators - birds, bees, and butterflies - that are essential to our composting cycle. It allows the community to examine the production and consumption of food, turn food scraps into compost, and contribute the cycle back to building healthy soil and more nutritious food.
